In PlayIt VoiceTrack, you can adjust the volume of music tracks when you're talking over them by editing the volume envelope in the segue editor. This process is typically done after you've recorded your voice track.
Creating Volume Points
After recording your voice track, click on the orange line that appears on the waveform of the music track you want to adjust. This orange line represents the volume envelope. Each time you click on it, you'll create an envelope point (shown as a red square) that you can move to adjust the volume at that specific moment in time. By creating multiple points, you can shape the volume to fade the music down when you're speaking and fade it back up when you've finished.
To create a fade, start by clicking on the orange line before you want the volume to drop, then click again where you want the music to be quieter and drag that point down. You can then add another point after your voice segment and drag it back up to restore the music to its original volume. This creates a smooth fade down and fade up around your voice.
Automatic Ducking
PlayIt VoiceTrack also offers an automatic ducking feature that can save you time. In the segue editor, you'll find a Duck other tracks checkbox in the Segue Information section. When you tick this box, the previous and next tracks will automatically have their volume reduced when your voice track plays. You can configure the amount of ducking (how much the volume drops) and the speed of the fade through the Settings window. This automatic approach is particularly useful if you want consistent volume reduction across all your voice segments.
Removing Volume Points
If you've created volume points that you want to remove, simply drag them outside the waveform box (either above or below) and they'll be deleted. This allows you to experiment with different volume shapes until you find what sounds best.
