How does the Seconds Per Fit setting affect the scheduling performance and accuracy?

The Seconds Per Fit setting controls how much time PlayIt Live spends trying to find the optimal combination of tracks when using the Fitting To Time algorithm during scheduling. This setting directly impacts both scheduling performance and accuracy.

How Seconds Per Fit works:

When scheduling content up to the end of an hour or a fixed time marker, PlayIt Live generates multiple combinations of playout log items to find the best fit within your target threshold. The Seconds Per Fit setting determines how long the system will spend on each period between fixed time markers.

Default configuration:

By default, PlayIt Live is set to:

  • Seconds Per Fit: 2 seconds
  • Number of Attempts: 25 combinations
  • Target Threshold: 30 seconds

This means PlayIt Live will generate up to 25 different combinations of tracks and spend up to 2 seconds finding the best one that fits within 30 seconds of the target time.

Increasing Seconds Per Fit:

Benefits:

  • Better accuracy - More time allows the algorithm to find combinations that fit closer to your target time
  • More thorough analysis - The system can evaluate more complex scheduling scenarios
  • Improved timing precision - Better chance of hitting exact fixed time markers

Drawbacks:

  • Slower scheduling - Takes longer to generate playout logs
  • Increased system load - Uses more processing power during scheduling

Decreasing Seconds Per Fit:

Benefits:

  • Faster scheduling - Quicker playout log generation
  • Reduced system resources - Less processing power required

Drawbacks:

  • Lower accuracy - May not find the optimal combination within the time limit
  • Looser timing - Results may be further from your target threshold

When to adjust this setting:

  • Increase if you need very precise timing and can tolerate slower scheduling
  • Decrease if you need faster scheduling and are satisfied with less precise timing
  • Consider your hardware - slower computers may benefit from lower values

Important note: The Advanced Scheduling module is required to modify these parameters from their default values.
