Why does a red notification appear saying "Player ... failed to load: Did not load after 30 seconds"?

A red notification stating "Player ... failed to load: Did not load after 30 seconds" appears when PlayIt Live is unable to load a track within 30 seconds. This timeout is designed to prevent the playout engine from freezing.

Common causes include:

  • Slow network connection - If your audio files are stored on a NAS (Network Attached Storage), the connection between your computer and the NAS may be too slow
  • WiFi connectivity - Wireless connections can be unreliable for streaming audio files
  • File encoding issues - A file may have an incorrect extension (e.g. an MP4 file saved with an .mp3 extension) or be poorly encoded

To resolve this issue:

  • Ensure your computer is connected directly to your router via Ethernet rather than WiFi
  • Check that your NAS is also connected via Ethernet with a reliable gigabit connection
  • Use MediaInfo to analyse the true format of your audio files and identify any encoding issues
  • Re-encode any problematic files if necessary
